Paul and Marian went as a combination to the Narborough Women’s Institute tonight and despite the freezing cold and the fact that two members had sadly died, thirty ladies still came out determined to know more about Motorcycle Funerals. I was quite taken by the fact that these ladies felt the best way to honour their friends was to carry on as planned, their friends after all were looking forward to our visit, so it was important our visit went ahead! This was both humbling and challenging for us, but I reckon the best people always bring out the best in you so I’m pleased to say this was probably my most pastoral talk on the subject ever.
The president of the group is called Elise and when her mum went into labour her dad dashed them both to hospital in a sidecar. How wonderful for someone who takes people on their final journey by motorbike and sidecar-hearse to meet someone who came into this world by motorbike and sidecar. I lost count of how many ladies told us of their motorbiking pasts, connections and aspirations. Maybe they should do their next calendar on motorbikes!
